The famous Akris London Boutique, a ladies clothes shop in the heart of this expensive and fashionable West End shopping area is well established, and the Swiss management had decided on a complete refurbishment for their London store. Included in the proposals were a new ventilation system and some additional air conditioning units, particularly to keep the dresses in perfect condition. Many residents are living nearby in luxury apartments; there are also nearby offices, and there was concern over potential noise and disturbance from the new machinery and plant.

 

Shaun Murkett Acoustic Consultants Ltd were commissioned to investigate and undertake a noise survey and an acoustic report with comprehensive design recommendations to allow the new ventilation system and air conditioning to operate late through the night with-out disturbing local residents, and also to be very quiet in the shop for customers.

 

These recommended works were soon installed on the new system, with regular inspections by the acoustic consultant to assist the contractors. A follow up sound test soon confirmed that the noise levels were all acceptable for the regulations, the local authority conditions were all signed off, and the shop was soon trading again successfully with lots of customers.
