In Central London space for residential development is at a premium, and often developers proposing to build in areas previously thought uninhabitable due to noise regulations, have to find innovative ways to gain official planning permission.
One such development was very close to a major railway line in Camden. The local authority were concerned about potential noise and vibration disturbing residents, and any proposal had to meet strict criteria for noise for planning permission to be granted.
Shaun Murkett Acoustic Consultants Ltd were commissioned to investigate and undertake full noise and vibration measurements, and issue a report with suitable design recommendations which would meet the Governments’ PPG 24 and British Standard BS 8233.
The noise surveys were carried out to measure train noise and vibration. Working closely with the architect and design team, various design options for building construction were suggested. Our recommendations were included into the specification document, and put out to tender. We have also been commissioned to offer on-going technical advice to the contractors on site to answer technical queries, and also to undertake relevant
