This multi-million pound project, in a prime residential area of London, required an acoustic expert with experience in building and architectural acoustics. The original 1960s office block was to be demolished, and 80 new luxury residential apartments to be built; however situated with-in the development was an electricity substation transformer, and potential noise and vibration was a primary concern.
Shaun Murkett Acoustic Consultants Ltd joined the design team of architects, structural engineers, and planning consultants, to give technical advice to resolve all these noise issues.
We undertook sound and vibration tests, and considered the proposals and a noise report was issued. Our report suggested detailed technical recommendations and various options, discussed with the design team, and integrated into the final design, and tender document. This was submitted, and Full Planning Permission was consequently granted.
The contract was awarded, work started; regular site meetings by us to assist the contractors with technical queries. The building was completed on schedule and in budget; completion noise tests in our report successfully confirmed all noise and vibration criteria were met. The requirements of the local authority and local government were then formally cleared. The apartments were then successfully sold and were quickly occupied.
